Ten Common Techniques to Link Baiting

Thursday, April 17, 2008

Further to my previous post on "Grab Links for Your Blog by Link Baiting", I would like to write more on this method, and give ten common techniques for link baiting activities.

1. Podcasting: Make a podcast that give useful tips, discusses hot topics or information within the industry your blog belongs to is a great baiting tool.

2. Interviews: Conducting interview to someone well known in the industry where your blog belong would certainly be worth linking to. In Adsense, these big guys include Darren Rowse, Joel Comm, John Chow etc. (when will I be the next one? LOL)

3. Award Search: Awards search are another way to bring in traffic and links where you let your participants post entries to their blogs with a link pointing to your blog.

4. Tools and games: Create a new tool or games that other bloggers may use to their blogs that contains a link to your blog. But that is not a easy task unless you know much about programming.

5. Content: Articles and blog posts are a great way to go about link baiting. You need to use your imagination to make your post linking compelling.

6. Video: Creating a funny or informative video can create quiet a buzz. Indeed, vblogs are getting more common in Web 2.0.

7. Giveaways and contests: These are great for a quick boost in traffic. Giveaways need to have an associated monetary value.

8. Blogs and forums: These are usually overlooked as a form of linking baiting, but they are one of the earliest forms of link baiting.

9. Guest bloggers: Let me post a post on your blog and you can post on mine for a cross promotion. It's a great way to get a link as well.

10. Lists: List are very popular because they are a list of something of value that people want, all in one place.

Importance of Inbound Links - How to get them?

Tuesday, March 18, 2008

In my previous post on Building Blog Traffic by Link Exchange, I mentioned that link exchange (reciprocal links) will no longer help you increase website popularity but will still help you gain targeted visitors to your site. This time, I am going to talk about one way inbound link, explain how important it is and why every webmaster should have as many as possible. One way inbound link worth a lot more than reciprocal links. Not only it can gain targeted visitors to your blog but also it will increase the search engine ranking (SERP) and in effect will bring you more traffic. Hence, link building is also known as "Off-page optimization" in SEO sense.

In real-life, it is never be easy to get inbound link, and in fact, you may need to pay much more time and money to get it. Say for example, many people buy one way inbound link from Da Gsense Codes for $20 a month.

What are the benefits of getting one way inbound links?

Search engine robots work by following links between websites and blogs. The more inbound links your blog has, the more often robots will visit your blog. Also, search engines assume that if lots of websites link to your blog it must be high quality. Many search engines count links to your blog as "votes" for you. Page Rank is Google's system of counting links.

The general rule is that the more inbound links you can get, the better. Getting more links should almost certainly be near the top of your priority list when optimizing your blog.

Now the problem is: how can you get them? There are many ways to get one way inbound link but the best way is simply to create blog posts which other webmasters will want to link to. These are known as natural links. Natural links have many advantages:

• Natural links will come to you without much effort except creating the content in the first place. You don't have to work to acquire them.

• The links will be diverse in nature as you will gain different anchor text.

• They are free and you don't have to reciprocate the link.

• The referring pages tend to be similarly themed. This is likely to become more important in the future.

If you are lucky you will attract enough natural links to give your blog a boost. However, most blogs need to make a lot of efforts to acquire inbound links.

Creating an effective online presence begins with quality content. After you put your heart and soul everyday into your works online, you might start to wonder when traffic will start rolling into your blog.

Build Blog Traffic by Link Exchange

Thursday, March 13, 2008

Some says link exchange will do more harm than good to your blog, but I don't agree. Link exchange, on one hand, can be a great way to increase your Page Rank and on the other hand, gain a better position in Google. Apart from that, you can get more traffic from the back links of other blogs. Now, this method has become less effective as it will no longer help you with site popularity but will still gain targeted visitors to your site.

Let me first tell you why link exchange will no longer help you increase website popularity before we go on building blog traffic through exchanging links the right way.

Many webmaster indulge in what I call spam indexing. These cheaters are targeting search engines that rely heavily on popularity and links. Some may buy links to raise popularity. Others engaged in exchanging links with anybody and everybody just to gain popularity. There are even dozen of small websites purposely made to link the main one just to give false view of website popularity.

While link exchange will no longer help you increase popularity, it retain it’s effectiveness to get targeted blog traffic. However there are a few points to remember.

1. Do link exchange with blogs and websites whose general theme are similar or complimentary to your blog.

2. Do link exchange only with blogs and websites you think will be valuable to your visitors. This is important for your own business reputation and Page Rank with Google.

3. Do not link exchange with blogs or website that has huge collections of links from anywhere and everywhere. These websites will not bring you any traffic and can actually get your blog banned by Google.

As you can see link exchanges will still do well to your blog. You just need to adapt to get the best possible use out of them. They will not affect your popularity much but as you can see might affect your Page Rank due to the type of websites you are partnering with. With these few points you can still gain targeted traffic and sales by using this method of promotion wisely.

If you are really serious of building blog traffics for weeks, months or even years without spending a dime on advertising, why don't you get a copy of Turn Words Into Traffic by Jim and Dallas Edward. I higly recommend this ebook.

Drive Traffic to Your Blog by Pinging

Friday, March 7, 2008

You want more blog traffic? Have you ever heard of pinging? If not, you can keep reading this post, because pinging can surely increase blog traffic to your site. Pinging is an act of sending a series of packets from one computer over a network or the Internet to a specific computer in order to generate a response from that computer. The other computer responds with an acknowledgment that it received the packets. Ping was created to verify whether a specific computer on a network or the Internet exists, and is connected.

Pinging and Blog Traffic

Certain Web sites want to know when you post something new to your blog so they can promote it to the world. By pinging these Web sites you can get the word out easily. This allows you to build blog traffic. Most blogging software will ping to at least one of these Web sites automatically. However, you can easily promote your new post to dozens more. The good thing about this, you don't have to visit their site each time you want to promote your blog.

There are a number of services designed specifically for tracking and connecting blogs. By sending a small ping to each service you let them know you've updated your blog so they can come check you out.

One way to maximize your pinging is by using a service called Ping-o-Matic. By pinging the Ping-o-Matic service you automatically send update notifications out to as many as 22 sites. Be careful not to ping too often though; many ping services will block you if your pings become over zealous.

Another Good Thing About Pingging

Since pinging alerts the major blog tracking sites it then helps search engines crawl and reindex your new content much quicker. This also helps your search engine positioning which is even better for your business. You should ping your blog every time you write new content and update your blog. This way others know immediately that your blog has been updated.

Traffic from Blog Directory Submission

Monday, February 18, 2008

I have previously written a post on directory submission, and I want to discuss more on it today. Almost all bloggers should know that directory submission will increase blog traffic to a certain extent. I know, you knew it but how much have you done submitting your blog and RSS feed to blog directories? Blog directories is a bit different from the normal directory that it is specifically designed for blog submission only and the classification inside is far more detailed.

I suppose, this is a good opportunity to conduct a survey. Another follow-up question is this, how much directory submission will you think be enough to turn your blog into money making machine? When your target is blog for money, maybe or just maybe 100 directory submission will not be enough. For this blog, I aimed for 1000 directory submission done before the year ends. I will post here names and links of the directories to which this blog is submitted and keep this entry updated until I reach 1000 submission. Later, after some time, in my future post, I may be able to tell you which directories will bring good blog traffic. So keep visiting this blog.

Using "TrackBack" to Increase Traffic

Friday, February 15, 2008

To many bloggers, TrackBack may not be a popular thing. Many do not even know about it and among those who are knowledgeable about TrackBack, never used it on their blogs. But, I am going to share this little tools, since this tool can be a very effective one to bring good traffic to your site, if you know how to use it properly.

At the very beginning, you may want to know: "what is TrackBack?"

TrackBack is a system implemented by Movable Type and later adopted by many blogging tools, including TypePad, BoastMachine, WordPress, and Nucleus. Essentially, TrackBack is a mechanism or platform for communication between blogs and bloggers. If a blogger writes a new post commenting on or referring to the post found on another blog and if both the commenting blogger's blog and the other blog has TrackBack mechanism support, then the commenting blogger can notify the other blog with a "TrackBack ping" which means the other blog will automatically display a backlink and summaries of the commenting blogger's new post at the post which had been cited to.

How Do We Notify The Other Blog with a TrackBack Ping?

First, understand that not all blog has enable TrackBack functionality. When they do, you should see a TrackBack link at the bottom of the post. Once you find the link and you wish to talk about the post made by another blogger, click the TrackBack link of that post and copy the TrackBack URL.

Once you have that TrackBack URL, go to your own blog and create a new entry related to that post. Before posting your entry, paste the TrackBack URL in the space provided for TrackBacks. This will send the notification to the blog you referenced once you publish your entry. Therefore, there, you've sent a TrackBack. Just make sure when you're sending TrackBack URLs that your blog entry is relevant to the one you are referring to. Otherwise, you will be perceived as a TrackBack spammer.

How to use TrackBack Effectively Increase Blog Traffic?

Remember, sending TrackBack ping to other blog will automatically create a backlink and summaries of the commenting blogger's new post at the post which had been cited to. Unlike usual backlinks, backlinks made by TrackBack ping may not increase your search engine ranking but will still served as a doorway to your blog.

To increase blog traffic using TrackBack, send TrackBack ping to high traffic blogs and popular blog post. This will cause a portion of their traffic flowing to your blog. Also send TrackBack ping to blogs whose theme are closely related to your blog as their loyal blog traffic will certainly be interested in your post.

Again, just make sure when you're sending TrackBack ping that your blog entry is relevant to the one you are referring to.

Also, if you want to let people send TrackBack pings to your weblog, make sure that you have it enabled. Some blogging systems like Blogger need extra plugins or third party services to have TrackBack feature. To have this blog a Trackback feature I need to use a free third party services by HaloScan.

HaloScan Brings TrackBack Functionality to Blogger, Blogspot, and other Blogging tools w/o their own commenting and trackback features

According to the News from HaloScan.com, "HaloScan fills this need by providing you not only with the (free) commenting services we have provided for the last one and half years, but also easy, seamless integration of trackback services (both incoming and outgoing ping support) to all existing and future Haloscan members. All this at the unbeatable price of $0.00–FREE. Getting started requires minimal work–sign up, log in and follow the simple, two-step directions to install trackback and/or commenting into your weblog. We highly recommend that all existing and new users install both the commenting and trackback services but you can also install just one or the other as needed. If you have trouble with any part of this process, we'll be glad to help! Also, be sure to send a trackback ping to this post if you install the trackback system or write about us in your weblog."

The only difference when using HaloScan's TrackBack feature is that, sending TrackBack ping is no longer made from your blog’s new post but from your account in HaloScan site.

If you use TrackBack effectively, it can definitely help you get constant blog traffic round-the-clock.

Use RSS Feed to Generate Traffic

Thursday, February 14, 2008

As stated in my previous post, this blog implemented Technorati Tag to get some traffic. So, maybe you might ask, how was it? What's the traffic? Honestly, I still don't no. It's too early to track the traffic and this blog is just 3 days old. But I will start telling you about the traffic maybe after 10 posts.

Today, I visited high traffic blogs and try to list down their common features. There are a number of which but for now, I will just tackle one - RSS feed. Yes, most high traffic blogs publish RSS feed.

Every serious blogger publishes an RSS feed of his posts and readers aggregate all their favorites blogs feeds in an aggregator. When you publish your RSS feed, your viewers will thank you, and there will be more of them, because it allows them to see your site without going out of their way to visit.

While this seems bad at first glance, it actually improves your blog's visibility; by making it easier for your users to keep up with your site - allowing them to see it the way they want to - it's more likely that they'll know when something that interests them is available on your site.

For example, imagine your blog announces a new product or feature every week or two. Without a feed, your viewers have to remember to come to your blog and see if they find anything new - if they have time. If you provide a feed for them, they can point their aggregator or other software at it, and it will give them a link and a description of developments at your blog almost as soon as they happen.

By providing a feed, you are in front of them constantly, improving the chances that they'll click through to a post that catches their eye and visit your blog.

Here, this blog now provide a feed for which anybody can subscribe. There are various formats or protocols of feed available such as RSS and Atom. However, my feeds are readable to any format the subscriber is using because of SmartFeed service by FeedBurner. So what is FeedBurner?

FeedBurner

FeedBurner is a service that takes a normal, everyday RSS or Atom feed of any kind and turns (burns) it into a FeedBurner feed that you can then distribute to readers for use in any RSS reader. The company currently hosts more than 470,000 combined RSS and Atom feeds for over 280,000 content publishers and delivered feeds to 19 million subscribers.

One reason a blog owner would want to use this is because it simplifies the RSS feed. The Feed URL for this blog, for instance, is http://feeds.feedburner.com/blogformoney2, which is a much simpler format that standard RSS feeds. Also, most blogging software offers a variety of RSS feeds - Atom, RSS 1.0, 2.0, etc. Sometimes these feeds don’t work properly with some readers. And if a blog can get most of its readers to use the single Feedburner feed, they can take advantage of the great statistics and tools to see where readers are coming from and what they are clicking on.

Another big reason for using FeedBurner, however, is that it can automatically add Google Adsense ads to your feeds, allowing you to easily generate revenue if you have a large enough audience. For more information, come and visit Feedburner.

Get Traffic from Technorati

Friday, February 1, 2008

In order to turn your blog as well as this blog into money making machine it needs to have traffic. No traffic simple means no money. The higher the traffic you get, the higher the chances of you getting big money. So getting traffic is all important.

Many first time blogger automatically assume that once their blog is setup and they put a few posts on it, they will get some hits and regular readers. This is definitely a wrong impression. You won't get any traffic if no one knows about your blog. So at this early, it is good to focus on how to boost traffic for your blog.

I took a look around at what some of the successful blogs were doing and came up with a number of traffic strategies that help them increase their blog traffic. As we go along, I will discuss these strategies one by one. For now, let me talk about boosting your blog traffic with Technorati.

Technorati is one of the best traffic providers for bloggers. People find your blogs easily when people search by technorati tags. Technorati will rank your blog based on the number of links from other websites. The higher your rank the easier your blog is to find when people search for things.

Again, how will Technorati give you great traffic? Basically, you need to do three things: First, add tags that are specific to your blog. Next, add tags that people are likely to be searching for that also apply to the things that you are writing about. Lastly, actively recruit links from other blogs to your blog by asking other bloggers to link to you.

Great, how do I get started?

It's so simple to get started with Technorati. First you sign up, and get a username and password. Once you've signed up and logged, you'll see a box that says "Claim your blog." Technorati offers a few different ways to verify that the blog you're claiming is, in fact, yours. It just wouldn't do to have people claiming other people's blogs!

Submit Your Site Instantly with Directory Submitter

Saturday, August 4, 2007

As the search engines are evolving each and every day, it's getting harder and harder to get top search engine rankings.

The search engines now, highly favor, websites that have a large number of quality, one way links pointing to them. Because of this, it's absolutely critical that we consistently try to get other websites to link to us, WITHOUT us linking back to them.

Yes, reciprocal linking is becoming less and less valuable. Submitting your website to website directories is an excellent way to get, quality, 1 way links pointing to your websites. You see, many of the website directories online have a high amount of page rank and have been online for several years.

These are 2 of the most important criteria for determining what a good link is, vs what a bad link is. These two criteria are:

1.The age of the website linking to you
2.The Page Rank of the website linking to you

With that said, many of these directories have both a high Page Rank AND are old websites, giving them more authority and power in the search engines.

Not only that, but there are literally thousands of website directories on the internet that are absolutely free for you to submit your website to! While it does take time to find these directories and then manually fill out all of the required criteria to submit your website, it is an excellent way to help increase your search engine rankings.

There are some good website directory submission software products on the market. The best of which is a product called Directory Submitter created by Brad Callen. Esentially you simply enter your website details into the software program 1 time, and then click on any of the 1600+ website directories in the software and it wil automatically fill in all of the submission criteria for you. Click the submit button and then your site has been instantly added to the website directory.

So, not only does it save you time in finding all of these directories, BUT it saves you an incredible amount of time filling out each and every website's submission criteria. To learn more about Directory Submitter, visit the link below:

But, please keep this to yourself, as I'd like to keep this our secret weapon :-)

Enjoy!

Certifications like 310-035 as well as 642-382 and 642-426 are hard without the basic knowledge of 642-444 and 70-284. Missing 70-293 will be alright though.

Directory submissions as a Promotion Strategy

Friday, August 3, 2007

Yesterday, we have talked about the Article Marketing. What about other marketing strategies? Have you ever heard of directory submission? There are a huge number of directories available, even I have one directory for Ad Publishers. Most Often, it is free to submit your site to more than a hundred of directories with high PR. You will be able to specify submission title (e.g. anchor text for you link), your description and your link. Good news is that it will not cost much to submit your web-site to directories starting with PR4. But let's think about content where your link will be listed.

If you are submitting business management related web-site, then you should carefully choose a category to place your link, the perfect would be "Business > Management", but there will be also a lot of other links. Take this blog as an exmaple, I would choose Computers and Internet > Blogs > Make Money to be my subcategory. There is no guaranty that Google will treat these links and their description as related to your niche. But directories submission works now fine, it is a cheaper option (or addition) to article marketing.

There are also a number of methods. For instance, it is talked widely, that you should participate in forums for your topic. This is a great idea, but it will cost you much more time to find and answer questions in forums. Also, if you would like to hire someone to answer posts in forum you will have to pay much more than in the case of article marketing or directory submission.

Tomorrow, I will share one useful and free software with you that enables you to streamline your submission process. Stay tuned.

Usually certifications like 640-801 and 350-029 become easy if one has 642-523 or 642-552 to his credit. If not, one can always go for a 70-294 or a 70-297 at any time.

Let's Begin with Article Marketing

Thursday, August 2, 2007

Traffic is king. The most fundamental stuff that every money blogger needs is traffic. There are many web promotion methods or strategies out there in the web, and I am going to introduce one by one. Today, I am going to discuss Article Marketing. Article marketing is one of the most popular stratrgies used by internet marketers. Why use article marketing and not some other kind of marketing? To answer this question, we need to first list the types of online marketing that are popular today, then we will be able to compare results and will find out in what case article marketing works better than any other kind of marketing.

Let's begin with article marketing itself. First, what kind of stuff you need to do for article marketing? You will need to write an article for submission purpose and you will need to submit it to many websites or just to few major ones. The costs for copy-writing service start at 10$ per 500 words and depend a lot on quality of the article. There are may freelance writers that is waiting for your requests. As for submission you can do it yourself or find really cheap options, for instance you can submit to bulk sites for just 10$.

What about the results? You will have an article listed on hundred of sites, that tells about your niche site/ pages, and you will have a link which points to your site. There are good chances that Google will treat this page and the link as useful. As link comes from article which is related to your website topic. Tomorrow, I will share more on directory submission, another way to drive traffic to your site.

Getting through 642-372 and 70-431 is easy if you have already cleared 642-552 or even 70-526. If not, even 642-453 will be difficult for you.
